Hema Malini wins the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 64th Vimal Elaichi Filmfare Awards 2019

Hema Malini, our beloved Dream girl was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the prestigious 64th Vimal Elaichi Filmfare Awards 2019. Gulzar, Writer-lyricst presented the award to her. Hema Malini was awarded due to her contributions to the film industry as a producer, writer and director along with her acting that has kept viewers riveted to the screen for generations.  She is also a successful politician and serves   The actress has also dabbled with film making as a director, writer and producer as well. Hema Malini also enjoys a successful political career as a Member of Parliament.

Hema Malini has been in the Indian film industry for 50 years and has contributed immensely. Her performances both in art house and commercial productions have won huge accolades. During the span of her illustrious career, she has been nominated 11 times for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Mention must be won for her winning the title in 1972 for the role of twin sisters that she played in Seeta Aur Geeta. She was then nominated in a single year for two movies  ‘Amir Garib’, ‘Prem Nagar’, both in 1974 and then for ‘Sanyasi’, and ‘Mehbooba’ both in 1975. Malini was  promoted as the  “Dream Girl” of Bollywood and then she starred in the film with the same name in 1977. She was also honored in the same year with the Padma Shri which is the fourth highest civilian honour in India.

While seeking her reactions on the victory, Hema Malini said that she is both proud and honored to be associated with “wonderful world of cinema” for the past 50 years. When asked about her initial days, she said that she expected that she would be able to survive the industry for not more than two years. “Maybe I wanted to prove wrong the person who rejected me. But I continued and stayed here for 50 years.”
