Google Pay which was earlier known as Tez has recently rolled out the ability of booking trains in India straight from the convenience of the app. It can be done on both the Android and IOS platforms. The fare would be deducted directly from the bank account. This has made booking trains a breeze as there are no hassles and no extra apps for train booking.
In this article, you will get to know about how to easily book a train ticket. One pre-requisite is that you need to have a functional IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) account. You will need to create one in case you do not have one.
Once the account is created, do the following steps to book a train ticket directly from the Google Pay app:
- Open Google Pay app on the phone, scroll down to the Business section, and tap on the Trains icon.
- Tap on Book Train Tickets.
- Select your origin and destination with the date of travel and General/Ladies quota to search for trains. Note that Tatkal ticket booking is not available at the moment.
- From the list of trains, you can check availability, and select a class to book the ticket.
- Once you select a class of ticket, you’ll have to enter your details like IRCTC ID, name, contact number, and age.
- After that, you’ll be prompted to pay through your Google Pay UPI account, and enter the password for the IRCTC account in the subsequent steps.
Google Pay has added features to cancel the ticket or check the status of the train directly from the app. While searching for trains, you can enter the name of the city, specific train station’s code or name. If a city has more than one station then all stations in the city will be included in your search. Bookings for 6 passengers and 2 infants can be done in one booking. In case there are more people then a separate booking has to be made. If the booking is not confirmed, a notification will appear on the next screen. For making fresh bookings, tap the Book new ticket and repeat the steps mentioned above. Availability and search results may vary from the booking time. You will receive a notification if there is a change in the status of your ticket – Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) or wait list (WL) ticket.
