Meta-owned instant-messaging app WhatsApp now allows users to check their bank account balance using the WhatsApp Payments services, which was launched in November 2020 in India and was rolled out for more users in 2021. The WhatsApp payments service allows users to conduct financial transactions like sending money and checking bank account balance.

For those who don’t know, you can find the payment service option by clicking on the 3 dots in top right corner of the app and selecting the Paymets option.

Then if you want to conduct UPI transaction then you need to enable bank-to-bank money transactions. The NPCI (Nationwide Payments Corporation of India) developed UPI (Unified Payment Interface), a national payment system that is supported by most of India’s major banks. In compliance with NPCI-issued UPI guidelines, WhatsApp does not store or remember the UPI PIN of a user for the payments service.

WhatsApp payments provides two type of ways to check the bank account details — one is through settings and the other is when sending money. However, note that your WhatsApp phone number need to be linked to your bank account. The bank account number should be added to the payment method to check the account balance through WhatsApp.
