Continues heavy rains this monsoons are fooling various states of the country. The states of Assam, Bihar, Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra have already suffered floods, while the state of Kerala has been put on red alert. The State of Kerala is still recovering from the massive flood it earlier suffered from, and now several parts of the state are again submerged.
A red alert has been issued on three districts of Kerala, as heavy rains have caused flooding of few villages and isolated them from the rest of the state. Kerala’s State Disaster Management Authority has already issued red alert for the districts of Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode early on Thursday. The authority has also issued an Orange Alert for Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod for the day. All the educational institutions in Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasargod and Kottayam districts have been closed.
On the other hand, after facing the severe consequences of drought only a few months earlier, the state of Maharashtra is now trying to handle the emergency of devastating floods. Especially the western districts of Maharashtra are facing very heavy rainfall and flooding, which is severely hampering daily life and causing extensive damage. More than 1.32 lakhs people have been already evacuated from the flood stricken parts of the western Maharashtra and shifted to safer places. The flood waters have already submerged several villages and towns in western Maharashtra, especially in the Kolhapur and Sangli districts on 7th of August due to ceaseless rains.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis has cancelled his “Maha Jan Aadesh Yatra”, which is a month-long campaign ahead of the elections in the state due to incessant rains and the flood ridden emergency situation in the state. Mr. Fadnavis has also conducted a meeting in Mumbai in order to review the flood situation along with other senior ministers such as Eknath Shinde, Chandrakant Patil, Ramdas Kadam and Girish Mahajan.
The flood situation in Maharashtra and Kerala is likely to escalate further in the coming days due to constant rains.
