The sixth-generation Honda Activa 6G has been launched in India with prices starting at ₹ 63,912 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Honda Activa, first launched in 2001, enters its 20th year and is India’s highest-selling scooter. The Activa 6G marks a major upgrade over the outgoing version with the popular-selling scooter now meeting the BS6 emission norms, while the styling revisions are extensive as well. The new Activa retains the same silhouette as its predecessor but promises lower emissions, improved fuel economy and a host of new features as well.

“Much ahead of the regulation, Honda was the first manufacturer in India to start selling mass segment BS-VI Two-Wheeler – the Honda Activa 125 followed by the Honda SP 125. We have already dispatched over 75,000 units of these two BS-VI models across India. Today, as we launch the all new BS-VI Activa 6G, I am confident, it will unleash another “Quiet Revolution” and further strengthen our business expansion in India,” said Minoru Kato, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Private Limited.

In terms of styling, the 2020 Honda Activa 6G gets a redesigned front apron, revised LED headlamp, and tweaks to the rear. The side panels get minor revisions as well to keep up with the rehashed styling. The model though looks similar to the outgoing Activa 5G overall. The feature list has seen the addition of a multi-function key with remote hatch opening, both for the seat hatch and external fuel filler lid, as well as an engine kill switch. The Activa 6G gets a longer seat, longer wheelbase and even increased floor space. The new Activa 6G will be available in six colours, and two variants – Standard, and Deluxe.

“When it comes to the love for Activa, it is spread throughout India. Activa as a brand, has evolved over the years and enjoys almost two decades of leadership in the automatic scooter segment. Today we are proud to launch the game changing BS-VI Activa 6G which will be available across our dealerships by the end of January and early February,” said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India.

The model now gets the new silent-start ACG motor that first debuted on the Activa 125 last year. Honda’s Enhanced Smart Power (ESP) technology also includes friction reduction inside the engine. These include an offset cylinder for better refinement, a compact crankshaft, optimised piston, and improved combustion. The new Activa 6G is said to be 10 per cent more fuel efficient than the Activa 5G it replaces.

Power on the new Honda Activa 6G comes from the updated 109 cc single-cylinder engine. The big change is the addition of fuel-injection in place of a carburettor to meet the stringent emission norms and for smoother performance and high efficiency. Power though has seen a slight decrease on the updated engine, which now makes 7.68 bhp at 8,000 rpm, and 8.79 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. The new Honda Activa 6G is the latest model from the manufacturer to meet the BS6 norms after the Activa 125 and the SP 125. Bookings for the new model are open and sales will begin by the end of January with deliveries commencing from early February.
