You may have been waiting for it and in a couple of days, one of the most awaited Android phones for 2020 will be finally unveiled. Yes, Xiaomi has finally announced the launch date for its flagship Mi 10 series. The phone will be presented to the world for the first time on February 13 but in a rather unusual way. Instead of the pompous launch events that Xiaomi has had for its Mi series flagships since the last few years, this year’s launch will be hosted online.
Xiaomi has announced in its latest Weibo post that the Mi 10 series launch will be done via an online livestream. Although Xiaomi hasn’t listed the reason for the online launch of its 2020 flagship phone, it seems that the company is taking this route in the wake of the Coronavirus outburst that’s shaken China and the rest of the world. An online launch could prevent putting the media and guests at risk.
However, Xiaomi could use the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona as the place to demonstrate its 2020 flagship phone to the world. The Mi 10 series may be launched globally soon after the Chinese launch and Xiaomi will try to pitch the Mi 10 as an alternative to Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S20 series phones.
The Mi 10 series is important for Xiaomi this year as it might take its premium phone game to the same level as OnePlus and Samsung. Unlike previous years, Xiaomi is looking to launch the Mi 10 in India to compete with the OnePlus flagships as well as the iPhone 9.
Couple of leaks on the web have given us a fair idea of what to expect from the Xiaomi Mi 10. At the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit last year, Xiaomi announced that the Mi 10 will use the Snapdragon 865 chipset. That brings native support for 5G networks to the phone.
It is also known that the Mi 10 will come with a 108-megapixel camera on the back similar to the Mi Note 10. The Mi 10 will also gain a faster refresh rate of 90Hz and similar to most 2020 flagships, the phone will get a curved edge display with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.
