Kaun Banega Crorepati 12 rules have changed. KBC 12 is all set to premiere on September 28 with a new set of rules and a few changes. The new season makes a comeback amid the pandemic with Amitabh Bachchan as the host. Kaun Banega Crorepati 12 comes with a few changes relevant to the current times.

Here are changes that you’ll see on KBC 12:

  • For the very first time in 20 years, KBC will not host in-studio audience keeping in line with the government mandated safety guidelines and protocols in response to Covid-19.
  • Audience Poll will be replaced by the lifeline Video-A-Friend. The in-studio audience played a huge role in Audience Poll, which helped the contestants to move ahead in the game.
  • The other three lifelines remain the same 50:50, Ask The Expert and Flip The Question.
  • The number of fastest finger first contestants who will compete to be on the hot seat per week has been reduced from the usual 10 to eight.
  • This year as well, viewers can play KBC Play Along on SonyLiv app.

Sony TV shared a sneak-peek of Kaun Banega Crorepati 12, where showrunner Sujata Sanghamitra talks about the changes on the show and how the reality show has adapted to the post-Covid-19 world. They captioned the video as, “Take a sneak-peek into our #KBCKiDuniya and watch how our makers have successfully converted the challenges this year into opportunities. #KBC12 starts from 28th September Mon-Fri 9 pm only on Sony TV (sic).”

In the video, viewers can see host Amitabh Bachchan arriving on the sets and shooting for KBC 12. “The world has changed. We have auditioned the contestants digitally. This time there’s no live-audience so we don’t have an important lifeline – Audience Poll. First time in 20 years we do not have this lifeline. Instead of that we have Video-A-Friend,” said Sujata Sanghamitra.

She further added, “Earlier 10 contestants played fastest finger first but now it has been reduced to eight because we have to keep the seat at a distance according to the social-distancing norm. The distance between the hotseat contestant and Bachchan sir has also increased.” This time KBC team didn’t visit the contestants’ home to shoot a video but they asked the contestants to shoot a video and send it them.

This year, due to the novel coronavirus, the selection of KBC 12 contestants was completely virtual. From registrations to auditions, everything was conducted online
